Underminers are neutral mobs that can be found in Abandoned Mineshafts but only if the player spends a lot of time in one.
Behavior[]
Underminers will fight back if the player attacks one.
Underminers will attack by hitting their target with their pickaxes.
Underminers are incorporeal and are capable of walking through blocks.
If an Underminer is approached, it will disappear temporarily.
Revealing Ores[]
Underminers are sometimes seen mining blocks with their pickaxes, but due to them being ghosts, they are incapable of breaking the block. However, Underminers will only break blocks that have ores located behind them.
If a specific ore block is dropped near an Underminer, they will cease being invisible and will search for that ore. If they find one hidden behind blocks then they will mine the blocks which can reveal where that ore is located.

- Despite what the Animal Dictionary says, these mobs are currently damaged by things other than magic although this may be a bug.
- If the player is near a group of Underminers then cave sounds play more frequently.
- They share their name with The Incredibles Pixar Film Villain: The Underminer.
- One of the Underminer variants share a resemblance to Herobrine, a Minecraft creepypasta.
- This variant can be forced by renaming an Underminer "Herobrine".
- During Halloween, or if the Super Secret Settings are enabled, all Underminers will have the Herobrine variant.
- They are one of the only ghostly spectral mobs that are added in the game, the other is the Spectre.
- Underminers cannot be killed with /kill command.
- When an Underminer is attacked, it flashes blue instead of red.

| "Underminers are rare, ghostly inhabitants of abandoned mineshafts. Due to their ethereal nature, they can walk through walls with ease, and can only be damaged with magic, such as Splash Potions. Most Underminers will only begin to appear if plenty of time is spent in a mineshaft. However, they pose no threat to the living, as long as they are not attacked first. Their mistrust of newcomers is apparent however - they will disappear temporarily if approached. Underminers are content to stalk the halls of the mineshaft, as they have been doing for hundreds of years. Underminers can occasionally be seen mining blocks with their Ghostly Pickaxes. Due to them existing on the spiritual plane, they cannot destroy these blocks, but their actions can reveal hidden ores in the walls of the surrounding mineshaft. If a specific ore block is dropped near an Underminer, it will cease being invisible and begin to seek out and mine blocks obscuring that specific ore block hidden in the surrounding area - potentially revealing ore veins. If slain using magic, the Underminer may drop its Ghostly Pickaxe. This pickaxe, although immaterial, is decently powerful, yet its true power is that it can store up to 9 stacks of mined block drops within itself - only if its user has a full inventory. Once there is space in the inventory, the items will be returned from the pickaxe. The Ghostly Pickaxe can be repaired with Phantom Membranes." |
