Terrapin (also known as River Turtles) are passive mobs that spawn in Rivers.
Behavior[]
Terrapins are semi-aquatic and can live in Water as well as on land.
Terrapins can spawn with several mutations.
Terrapins can be collected with a Bucket to obtain a Bucket of Terrapin. Terrapin placed in a bucket do not despawn naturally. When the bucket is used on a block it places Water along with the Terrapin swimming next to it.
Shell Launching[]
Players can stomp on a Terrapin to force it into its shell. If the player stomps the Terrapin while in its shell, it will start spinning and launch into the direction the player was facing, causing several hearts of damage to entities it hits (aside from other Terrapins).
Breeding[]
Terrapins can be bred with Seagrass.
Feeding two Terrapins some Seagrass causes them to enter love mode and eventually one of the Terrapins will lay some Terrapin Eggs.
Terrapins comes in several different colors, which mix when bred. There are over 800 possible combinations of Terrapin mutations.
Trivia[]
- Naming a Terrapin "Koopa" or "Koopa Troopa" will give it a skin based off of the Mario enemy of the same name.
- This can also appear as a rare Terrapin variant.
- The Shell Stomping property of Terrapins is a reference to Koopa Troopas in the Super Mario games, which get launched and hit enemies in front of them when the player stomps on them.

"Terrapins, or River Turtles, are small reptiles occasionally found submersed in ice-free river biomes. They are completely passive and rely on their shell for protection. Wild Terrapins can be picked up with a Water Bucket. If a Terrapin is jumped on, it will recede into its shell. If jumped on again, the turtle will spin in the direction of the jumper, ricocheting off of walls. If it collides with another mob, the speedy turtle will deal a decent amount of damage. However, this mob could become aggressive towards whomever launched a turtle at them. Terrapins come in a vast array of patterns and colors, many of which do not appear in nature. These turtles can be bred with Seagrass in order to produce 1-4 Eggs. Although most of these Eggs should be a direct cross between their parents, there is a chance for a baby turtle to mutate a completely random color. If the turtle is not mutates then its colors may be one of its parents or an average of the two." |
