Spectres are passive mobs that spawn in Small End Island biomes.
Behavior[]
Spectres are often seen flying around.
Spectres can only be damaged by magic such as Potions.
Flying With Spectres[]
Spectres can be lured if the player holds a Soul Heart near one.
If a Spectre is close enough, players can use Leads on the Spectre which will cause the Spectre to fly around as normal but will now have a player hanging on to the Spectre using the Lead. This makes Spectres a useful asset for travelling between islands.
To detach from the Spectre, either crouch or right-click the Lead. Keep in mind that the player will fall upon detaching so make sure that they have a way of surviving the fall upon detaching.

Trivia[]
- They are one of the only ghostly spectral mobs that are added in the game, the other is the Underminer.
- They make sounds similar to the Phantom mob, a nod to the fact that they are related to the Phantom.
- It may also be a nod to the fact that when Phantoms were first added to the game, they used to spawn in The End, which was removed in later game changes.
- If certain Shaders are enabled, the Spectres will look more like the Phantom.[1]

"A Spectre is the distant relative of the Overworld's Phantom, and can only be found in the great void between the islands of The End. These spectral beings cannot be attacked by any normal means, except for magical damage like Potions. However, there should be no need to attack them, since Spectres are completely passive, unlike their Phantom cousins. Spectres usually take no interest in worldly matters, but they do find special interest in Soul Hearts, and will follow any player holding one. If one can lure a Spectre close enough, they can use a Lead to attach themselves to the beast. When attached via a Lead, one will find themselves pulled along by the Spectre. The ghostly creature then becomes a quick and easy way to navigate The End, as being pulled by a Spectre across the void is an easy way to find new End Islands to explore. To detach from the Spectre, simply sneak or interact again with the Lead." |
