Rhinoceros (also known as Rhinos) are defensive mobs that can be found in Savanna biomes.
Behavior[]
Rhinoceros are defensive and will only defend themselves if closely approached or the player attacks them from afar, unless the Rhinoceros has been pacified with Wheat.
Rhinoceros will attack by charging and using their horns to impale their target. When attacking, their eyes change from normal to an angry red-eyed expression, similar to Wolves.
Rhinoceros will also attack all Illager type mobs (including Ravagers).
Pacifying[]
Rhinoceros can be pacified if a player feeds one Wheat which will make the Rhinoceros neutral towards whoever fed it.
Pacified Rhinoceros will also come to the defence of its feeder.
Pacified Rhinoceros will often stay near a Village if it manages to find one.
Potion Horns[]
If a Rhinoceros is hit by a Potion, that Potions effect will be applied to its horn.
If that Rhinoceros then attacks something with its horn then the victim will be applied with the effect.
These effects will stay on the horn until either the horn is used for 15-20 attacks or if the Rhinoceros dies.
Breeding[]
Rhinoceros can be bred with Grass or Dead Bushes.
Feeding two Rhinoceros some Grass or Dead Bushes causes them to enter love mode and eventually one of the Rhinoceros will spawn a baby Rhinoceros.
Trivia[]
- The reason why Rhinoceros attack Pillagers is due to the unfortunate truth of real-life Rhinoceros. In real-life, Rhinoceros are often hunted for their horns illegally which has caused many species of Rhinoceros to be endangered with some Rhinoceros species being so rare that even finding them is extremely difficult.
- This is also the reason why Rhinoceros don't drop their horns in-game.
- It is sometimes theorised that Ravagers may be the mutated monstrous versions of Rhinoceros, and both Ravager and Rhinoceros are very similar, having very high health, and heavy attack damages.
- However, Ravagers have the face of a Villager which could be seen as a flaw in the theory.
- Rhinoceros can be a useful asset for raids due to them attacking Pillagers.
- They do not charge as fast as Elephants do, which is inaccurate to the real world Rhinoceros which can charge faster than Elephants.
