Potoos are passive mobs that spawn in Dark Forests.
Behavior[]
Potoos rarely do anything during the day; they will perch on a tree and sleep through the day. During the night, they are slightly more active and will remain on their perch, only leaving to catch any Flies that get too close.
Occasionally, Potoos will yawn.
Depending on the light level, a Potoos eye will have tiny pupils in a light level above 7 and enormous pupils in a light level below 7.
Potoos can be moved around using a Falconry Glove.
Breeding[]
Potoos can be bred with Maggots.
Feeding two Potoos some Maggots causes them to enter love mode and eventually one of the Potoos will spawn a baby Potoo.
Trivia[]
- Unlike the Giant Squid, Potoos only enlarge their pupils in the dark and never enlarge them if an entity is right next to one.
- The Potoo was originally planned for Version 1.20.0 but ended up releasing early in Version 1.19.0 due to it not fitting the theme of the update.

"Potoos are lazy birds found only within Dark Forest biomes. They will attempt to remain on their perch and sleep through the day, becoming slightly more active at night. The Potoo's survival strategy depends on fooling its predators and prey that it is part of a tree, so Potoos will look for any Leaves or Logs to perch on. Once perched, they will seldom leave, unless they spot a small insect flying through the air. The Potoo's massive eyes contain pupils that scale with the brightness of their surroundings. If the bird is in a location where it is dark enough for monsters to spawn, it will consistently shriek and its pupils will take up most of its eye. Potoos can easily be handled and moved by using a Falconry Glove on them. They can be bred with Maggots." |
