Giant Squid are neutral mobs that spawn rarely underwater below y-level 25 in Deep Ocean biomes or if a Squid is struck by lightning.
Behavior[]
Giant Squid can only live in Water and will slowly die if on land for too long.
Giant Squid will fight back if the player attacks one.
Giant Squid may also have a chance to squirt ink when attacked.
Giant Squid will attack Guardians, fish or threats using their tentacles.
The Giant Squid texture will become paler if depending on how close they are to the Water's surface. Because of this, Giant Squid will always avoid getting near the surface.
The pupil in the eye of a Giant Squid will expand depending on how close an entity is to the squid.
Blue Giant Squid[]
Giant Squid spawned by lightning hitting a Squid will take on a blue coloration instead of the usual red.
Cachalot Whale Fighting[]
If a Cachalot Whale detects a Giant Squid using echolocation then the two will start a battle. In the fight the Giant Squid will latch onto the Cachalot Whales mouth and attack using its tentacles while the Cachalot Whale attempts to eat the Giant Squid.
If the Cachalot Whale wins the fight, then some Lost Tentacles will drop.

Animal Dictionary Entry |

"Giant Squid are large invertebrates only found in the deepest of ocean biomes. Although fearsome, Giant Squid are neutral towards most, unless they are a Guardian or a Fish. These invertebrates possess the largest eye in the animal kingdom. If slain, a Giant Squid will drop little more than a few ink sacs. However, if attacked by one of its only predators, the Cachalot Whale, this squid may lose a tentacle in the ensuing battle. These Lost Tentacles can be gathered by a player to create the Grappling Squok. This grappling apparatus allows one to shoot up to four tentacles at a time, latching onto any surface and pulling them towards it. It is very convenient for caving and ocean exploration. Giant Squid can become depressurized if under less than ten blocks of Water, and will take on a pale coloration. Rarely, if a normal Squid is struck by Lightning, it can transform into a unique blue Giant Squid." |
