Frilled Sharks are neutral mobs that spawn underwater below y-level 25 in Ocean biomes.
Behavior[]
Frilled Sharks can only live in Water and will slowly die if on land for too long.
Frilled Sharks will fight back if the player attacks one. They will attack by biting, inflicting Exsanguination in the process.
Frilled Sharks will attack Blobfish, Squid and Glow Squid by using its reflective teeth to catch their attention.
Frilled Sharks are also seen hunting other aquatic mobs by straight up attacking them.
The Frilled Shark texture will slightly change to a slightly paler version if it comes close to the Water's surface although it is difficult to spot the difference. Frilled Sharks will also move slower if near the Water's surface.
Frilled Sharks can be collected with a Water Bucket to obtain a Bucket of Frilled Shark. Frilled Sharks placed in a bucket do not despawn naturally. When the bucket is used on a block it places Water along with the Frilled Shark swimming next to it.
Trivia[]
- If a Frilled Shark is named "Kamata-kun" or "Kamata Kun" then it will gain a yellow texture based off of the monster of the same name from Godzilla franchise.
- This Name Tag Easter Egg exists because Kamata-kun was inspired by the real-life Frilled Sharks.
- The mechanic of dropping teeth when attacking may be a reference to the Stalker from the ocean-based video game Subnautica. This is probably supported by its green, kharaa-like eye although this remains unconfirmed.

"Frilled Sharks are lethargic living fossils found in Deep Oceans. These neutral sharks spend most of their time hunting for Blobfish and Squid, their favorite prey. When pursuing Squid, Frilled Sharks take advantage of the low-light levels of the deep sea and the Squid's natural instincts by luring them in using its very reflective teeth. After landing some prey in its jaws, the shark will use its special serrated teeth to deal damage along with the Exsanguination effect, which quickly drains health. Occasionally, these teeth can be shed when attacking a Squid. If one obtains some Serrated Shark Teeth, they can use them, along with some other aquatic items, to create the Shield of the Deep. This Shield is a bit more durable than normal, but it also deals the Exsanguination effect when blocking nearby attacks. Frilled Sharks can be transported by placing them in a Bucket of Water. If a Frilled Shark is in less than 10 blocks of water pressure, it will be discolored and even slower than normal." |
