Elephants are neutral mobs that can be found in Savanna biomes.
They can also be found if a Wandering Trader spawns in a hot biome as they will spawn riding an Elephant.
Behavior[]
Elephants will spawn in herds, each herd is led by a Leader Elephant.
Elephants will fight back if the player attacks one and will attack by either goring the victim with their tusks, tossing them with their trunk or rearing up and crushing them. The Leaders can additionally charge at the target.
If one Elephant is attacked, the rest of the herd will come to its defence.
Elephants will also run away from Bees.
Elephants can often be seen tearing the Leaves off of trees so they can eat them.
If baby Elephants lose their parents by death or losing track of them, they find another adult Elephant to look after them.
Trader Elephants[]
If a Wandering Trader spawns in a hot biome, they will ride an Elephant wearing a unique Carpet and a Chest containing loot.
The loot they contain is the following:
- Acacia Blossoms
- Animal Dictionaries
- Bananas
- Cave Centipede Legs
- Cobwebs
- Cockroach Wing Fragments
- Crimson Mosquito Larvae
- Crocodile Scutes
- Emeralds
- Emu Eggs
- Emu Feathers
- Maggots
- Sand
- Shark Teeth
- Sticks
- Tattered Tarantula Hawk Wings
Taming[]
Elephants can be tamed by feeding them Acacia Blossoms. Keep in mind that only Standard and Baby Elephants can be tamed like this, to tame a Leader Elephant, it needs to be a baby first. It is also important to know that since Elephants are large mobs, they cannot fit through small block spaces, so it is recommended not to build a small space for a tamed Elephant to go through.
Tamed Elephants can be ridden.
If its owner is attacked or if its owner attacks something then the Elephant will aid its owner in a fight.
Carpets of any color can be placed on a tamed Elephant for decoration.
Chests can be placed on an Elephant for storage.
To change the color of the Carpet, apply a new Carpet of the player's chosen color as using Dye doesn't work.
These can be removed with Shears.
Tamed Leader Elephants can be fed Wheat while being ridden to make them do their charge attack. This charge attack is temporary, and will only last a few seconds before the Elephant goes back to normal speed again.
Breeding[]
Tamed Elephants can be bred by feeding them Acacia Blossoms.
Feeding two tamed Elephants some Acacia Blossoms causes them to enter love mode and eventually one of the Elephants will spawn a baby Elephant.

Animal Dictionary Entry |
---|
"Elephants are giant land mammals that can be found roaming Savannas in great herds. In most Elephant herds, there are three kinds of Elephant: calves, tusked and non-tusked. Their are usually one or two tusked Elephants in a herd, and they are significantly stronger than other Elephants. They also have a special, devastating charge attack. Elephants are defensive of their herds, and most depend on these tusked individuals to be the most protective. Elephants can attack in a multitude of ways other than charging, including using their massive trunks to toss enemies, or rearing up and stomping their opponent. These mammals can often be seen standing up and tearing Leaves off of Trees, in hopes of obtaining a somewhat rare treat known as the Acacia Blossom. These blossoms drop rarely from Acacia Trees, and can be fed to Elephants to tame them. Wild tusked Elephants cannot be tamed, but babies and non-tusked Elephants can. A tamed, tusked Elephant can be obtained only by taming it as a calf. Tamed Elephants can be ridden by interacting with them. If a Chest is used on an Elephant, it can gain a rather large inventory stored on its back, which can be accessed by sneaking. Any Carpet can also be used on an Elephant to decorate it. Both the Chest and Carpet can be removed using Shears. Tamed, tusked Elephants can be made to charge by feeding them Wheat while riding them. This charge attacks speeds up the Elephant and deals a large amount of damage to any creature in the Elephant's path. Elephants need a resting period after charging. Elephants can be bred with Acacia Blossoms once tamed. Occasionally, Wandering Traders in warm biomes can be found on top of trader Elephants. These Elephants are chested and have some loot from the trader's travels that can be accessed." |
