Crows are passive mobs that spawn in Plains, Forest, Taiga and Meadow biomes.
Behavior[]
Crows are often seen flying around.
Crows will attempt to eat any dropped food item that they find.
Damaging Crops[]
If a Crow finds any Farmland that is growing a crop on it, the Crow will attempt to steal the crops for themselves.
To prevent this from happening, a Carved Pumpkin can be placed nearby to scare the Crows away.
Taming[]
Crows can be tamed by tossing Pumpkin Seeds nearby then letting the Crow pick up and eat them until its tamed.
Tamed Crows can be set to four modes:
- Follow: Makes the Crow follow its owner.
- Stay: Makes the Crow stay in place.
- Wander: Makes the Crow walk around aimlessly.
- Gather Items: Makes the Crow gather nearby items to bring to containers.
If its owner is attacked or if its owner attacks something then the Crow will aid its owner in a fight. Because the damage produced is low, the target won't attack the Crow. Crows can also deal additional damage to undead mobs.
Tamed Crows can regain health when sitting on a Hay Bale.
Shoulder Perching[]
Tamed Crows can be made to sit on the player's shoulders if they reach the player while set to follow.
Up to two Crows can sit on the player at a time.
The Crows can be removed from the shoulders if the player:
- Sneaks.
- Takes damage.
- Submerges themselves into Water or Lava.
- Sleeps on a Bed.
Gathering Items[]
Crows that are set to Gather Items mode will look out for nearby items to pick up and then bring to nearby containers, however, the container must have either an Item Frame or Glow Item Frame on the side with an item that matches the one the Crow is holding for it to be placed inside the container.
Crows that are set to Gather Items will fly around the nearest Hay Bale so they have a place to go back to if they fly too far.
Breeding[]
Tamed Crows can be bred with Pumpkin Seeds.
Feeding two tamed Crows some Pumpkin Seeds causes them to enter love mode and eventually one of the Crows will spawn a baby Crow.

Animal Dictionary Entry |

"Crows are noisy birds found in Forests and Plains. These creatures are considered pests since they can often be found encircling fields and damaging crop growth. A simple Carved Pumpkin is enough to scare away any Crows from a small field. These birds will usually scatter and take to the skies whenever closely approached. Crows will pick up any food item they can fit in their beaks and devour it. Despite their broody appearance, Crows can actually be tamed by tossing them some Pumpkin Seeds. Tamed Crows are extremely useful creatures with a variety of different uses. They can be made to sit, wander, follow or gather items. Any tamed Crow sitting on a Hay Bale will slowly regain health. They will also fly around this Hay Bale later, when set to gather items. When a Crow picks up an item when set to gather items, it will look for a container, like a Chest or Furnace, with an Item Frame on it matching the held item. If the item in the frame is the same as the one held in the Crows beak, it will deposit it from that side into the container. When set to follow, Crows will fly around their owner, and after a while, attempt to sit on their shoulders. Crows can be removed from the shoulders by sneaking. When Crows defend their owner, they peck their attacker, dealing low enough damage not to make the monster aggressive. However, Crows deal extra damage towards undead targets." |
