Alligator Snapping Turtles are defensive and will attack if closely approached or if the player attacks one.
Alligator Snapping Turtles will attack by biting the target with their jaws.
Alligator Snapping Turtles are semi-aquatic and can survive on both land and Water.
Shearing[]
Moss will build up on Alligator Snapping Turtles if they have spent time in water for half a Minecraft day (10 minutes)[1].
If mossy, Alligator Snapping Turtles can be sheared to obtain Seagrass, with a 5% chance to drop a Spiked Scute instead[2]. Once moss builds up on the turtle, the timer for growth resets and keeps ticking, meaning that any time spent with moss on its back will continue to count toward the 10 minute regrowth timer. Therefore, the player does not need to immediately shear the turtle to maximize drops; as long as the player shears it up to 10 minutes after moss has grown, no drop time is lost.
Breeding[]
Alligator Snapping Turtles can be bred by feeding them Raw Cod.
Feeding two Alligator Snapping Turtles some Raw Cod causes them to enter love mode and eventually one of the Alligator Snapping Turtles will spawn a baby Alligator Snapping Turtle.
